Belleview FL was incorporated in 1888. This small town has a population of 4,492 according to the 2010 census. The name is derived from two French words: belle and view, meaning "beautiful view". The city motto is "The City of Small Town Charm." Next article

In 1854, J. F. Pelot Sr., a transplant from South Carolina, purchased a farm near Lake Lillian. This area became a resting spot for Indian bands. In 1902, the Florida Central & Peninsular Railroad joined the Seaboard Airline Railroad. In 1887, the town was home to the Marion Land and Improvement Company, which operated a store, a hotel, and a library reading room. The Belleview Block fire destroyed the property and several homes.

The town's development was spurred by transportation needs. The peninsula line connected Belleview with Ocala and Waldo, resulting in an influx of settlers. Eventually, the Florida Railroad & Navigation Company organized these lines. In 1884, Charles A. Babb became the first postmaster and depot agent in Belleview. The trains brought mail to the town daily, delivering local produce to northern markets. Additionally, the railroads brought tourists and winter visitors to the town. Browse around this site
